Encounter develops diverse educational and social programs that are marketed in a non-traditional manner to unaffiliated and marginally affiliated Jews. Our goal is to offer Jews from all backgrounds and levels the opportunity to re-connect with their faith in a non-pressured and open environment. All Encounter programs and events offer participants an entree into the world of Judaism, its history, and its observances.

Born in Montreal, Encounter Director Rabbi Yisroel Roll, LCPC-Licensed Clinical Prefssional Counselor-Maryland, received a BA in Political Science from Yeshiva University and a law degree from University of Toronto. After practicng law for six years in Toronto he received his rabbinical ordination in Jerusalem and served as rabbi of the New West End Synagogue and led the synagogue to the Chief Rabbi's Community of the Year Award in 1995. He founded the Encounter outreach organization in London in 1995, which creates national outreach initiatives, including the annual Encounter Conference which attracts thousands of British Jews to hear world class speakers. Rabbi Roll founded the SEED Community Center in Edgware, England in 1998 and is currently the director of EncounterUSA, based in Baltimore.

He is the author of a book called Inner Peace-Achieving Self Esteem Through Prayer published by Targum Press in 1999, currently in its second printing.
